This week, Joseph Edwards, chief science officer of Yofumo Technologies, joins the Cannabis Equipment News podcast to discuss his unique approach to decontamination with a system that doesn't damage the valuable parts of the plant.
Joseph Edwards grew up in a rural farming community in Ohio, and earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters in Horticulture from Ohio State. When the Colorado cannabis market opened up, he had an "aha" moment. Cannabis had always been a part of his life and he saw an opportunity to be a part of the first wave of a burgeoning industry.
He started working with some large operators in Colorado, focusing on curation and biosynthesis. A lot of work had gone into pre-harvest/cultivation technologies, but Edwards says the industry was still using archaic post-harvest technologies—some that hadn't been used for hundreds of years.
He went to work for Yofumo Technologies, which makes decontamination solutions like the Pro+ that use natural ozone to gently, safely and effectively decontaminate organic substances and inorganic materials.
According to the company, the Pro+ units can decontaminate the greatest volume of organic material in the shortest amount of time, improving productivity, preserving value and reducing waste. The unique approach doesn't damage the valuable parts of the plant, like cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids.
Edwards held a key role in developing Yofumo's decontamination and curing technology.
